GOLF A broke new ground in the Tavistock Snooker Leage with their first ever ‘maximum five’, putting a dent in lowly Conservative C’s recent patch of good form.
Skipper Pope set Golf of the right track with a grafted, low scoring win over the enigmatic Dodd, with Pope’s solid safety play the telling factor.
Turnbull scored heavily, including 18 and 24 breaks, to dispose of Con’s Jago (senior) with little resistance being put up by the latter.
The winning third frame for Golf came with a robust showing from Wylie over Jago (junior), as Golf A steamroller continued on its merry way.
There were no questions over the next frame as Whitley gave Con C’s Neale no look in, with an eye catching 28 thrown in for good measure in a frame that barely lasted 20 minutes.
The five was brought up by Ruth in a high scoring frame against Con C’s Davey, who despite losing gave a good account of himself.
This win pulls Golf right up into the second place ‘chasing pack’.
Conservative A’s skipper Carruthers, with several first choice players missing, had Cook and Folley to make the numbers up, against local rivals Conservative B.
Regulation wins soon ensued for the A team with Carruthers (24) and Babb, making short work of Dolan and McKechnie. Cook made the match safe for Con A in a game that having been totally outplayed by the B Team’s Monk, still manged to pull a superb 25 clearance out of the bag to literally steal the game from under Monk’s nose. Folley then contrived to stifle all the flare and positive snooker out of Moloney, with his own brand of ‘safety game’ to make it four for the A team.
The final frame provided a face saving win for the B team’s Evans over Bell in a game where neither player shone.
Struggling West Devon C heaped more misery on West Devon D with a well worked 3-2 win.
In a match of tight frames it was Murton for the WD D team that edged out Hodge, followed by a good showing by Wannacott as he sneaked past Shoulders to pull the WD C team level.
Again in front went the D team with Shrimpton (junior) stealing a pink ball win over Elliott when Elliott had the game at his mercy but somehow managed to miss a ‘sitting’ pink himself.
All square yet again with the C team’s Williams getting the better of May, backed up by a match winning Skippers performance from C team’s Shrimpton (senior) to squeeze past Decieco to take the spoils for the West Devon C side.
