TAVISTOCK Amateur Boxing Club’s Chantel Whiting took the trip to Sweden last weekend to take part in the Golden Girl Boxing Competition in Boras, some 50km from Gothenberg.

The Golden Girl is the largest independent international all female championship in the world and this year attracted 254 boxers. Countries represented included Russia, Canada, Cuba, Uzbekistan, Holland, France and others.

Chantel represented Tavistock ABC in the 46kg weight division and went through to the semi-final where she met another English girl, Savannah Stubley from Empire Boxing Club.

This was an exciting match and although totally dominant in the closing round, Chantel had started slowly. This resulted in the narrowest of losses by points.

Stubley then went on to win the 46kg final with a less challenging match against French opposition.

Chantel is now training for the National Junior Championships where she knows she will face challenging bouts against quality opposition.

She wishes to thank her sponsors Redrow and Peak fitness for their support and everyone who has wished her success.

Tavistock ABC will be busy this month at events in Devonport and Bristol in preparation for our own show on March 10.
