CHARITY donations from the profits of the eighth Son-Rise Cup Football Festival next month will be going to Devon Air Ambulance, Help4Heroes and Action4autism.

The festival, on the weekend of May 18 and 19, which has earned a growing reputation since its inception, has attracted the backing of individuals and businesses, locally and now, nationally.

Founder Allen Lewis is delighted that the Co-operative Foundation is funding the facility hire and Specsavers sponsoring all the women's and girls' football. Abbey Garden is funding the event equipment and estate agents Mansbridge and Balment sponsoring the referees.

He said: 'As we celebrate all the good about football with the wonderful venues of Tavistock Community FC , Tavistock Community Sports Centre and Tavistock AFC's quality pitch, Langsford Park, we can show off the event in style.'

The men's tournament on Saturday, May 18, promises to be a real cracker, open to 32 teams. with eight referees as officials.

Adam Hopkins of Macron Store, Plymouth is sponsoring the winners prize of £200 of Macron kit vouchers and Sally Perkins from the Tavy Club is giving £100 beer tokens for the winning team to celebrate!

Tournaments for 8 to 16 years in boys and youth football, U10s, 14s, 16s girls and a ladies tournament will all take place over the weekend.

A celebration of Ability Counts football will be held on the Sunday with Newton Soccability FC taking on Tavistock Specials FC for the Karen Bell, Clifton Towl Memorial cups.

The giant Respect ball will also be making an appearance.

On Sunday at 4pm Tavistock Tyres play The Union Inn at Tavistock AFC's Langsford Park for the original Son-Rise Cup which started the whole event off. Led by Wayne Downham in the Brighton and Hove Albion kit and Pete Gibson in the Plymouth Argyle home kit - The Seagulls v the Pilgrims!

The Son-Rise Cup committee, led by chairman Robin Rich, thanks all the sponsors who have helped make this event so successful as without their generous support the event would not have reach the standard that it has achieved.
