Yelverton Villa 8

Southgate Seniors 1

DESPITE the damp and misty weather the football shone through as Yelverton continued their impressive start to the season with a stunning win against Duchy League side, Southgate Seniors.

Villa were quickly out of the blocks as Ben Pridham fired home after five minutes before Southgate equalised in the 11th minute with the goal of the game.

This goal inspired Southgate who were in the ascendancy for the next 15 minutes, bringing the best out of the rookie Villa keeper, James Graham, but they could not prevent Villa regaining the lead as a Josh Vernon corner was turned into his own net by a Southgate defender.

Villa ended the half strongly, and a brace from Mike Chatfield, in 28 and 39 minutes, ensured that Villa had a comfortable lead at the break.

Ben Pridham made it 5-0 just 30 seconds after the restart.

Adam Measom was a rock at the heart of the Villa defence, which Southgate never really looked like breaching. Some nice interplay between Jed Langdon and Sean Gill after 63 minutes released Ben Maughan who added the sixth goal.

Superb strikes from Josh Vernon (67 mins) and Sean Gill (74 mins) ensured that Villa ran out as comfortable winners.

Yelverton Villa 0

Tavistock CFC A 6

AFTER a great midweek result, Yelverton were brought back down to earth with a bang, by Plymouth and West Devon League one side, Tavistock CFC A.

Tavistock controlled the match from the first whistle, but Villa defended resolutely and for 30 minutes the game remained level. However, the pressure eventually told and, with lapses of concentration and defensive errors, the openings arrived for Tavistock and they put the chances away to lead 3-0 at half time.

Yelverton changed formation for the second half in order to provide a little more fire power up front and created a number of half chances. However it was Tavistock whose finishing showed a cutting edge, and they wrapped up the game with three more goals.
