Falmouth Town 2

Tavistock AFC 0

THE Lambs travelled to Falmouth last Saturday where the conditions were atrocious. The pitch was very heavy and, with a blustery wind, made it very difficult for Tavistock to play their normal passing game.

It was a scrappy encounter, with the home team adapting to the conditions better than the visitors.

The Lambs got off to the worst start possible, when the home team scored as early as the second minute when Andy Westgarth played a ball to Dan Richardson who flashed a first time shot across the Lambs' goal and fine the inside of the far post.

This was the first game the Lambs had played since December 14 and so it was no wonder that the away team looked rusty.

The remainder of the half was even with both teams struggling to overcome the terrible conditions.

Falmouth started the second half well, doubling their lead in the 48th minute when they won a corner kick. Evans swung over the kick to the far post where Rob Wearne, who was completely unmarked, powered home a fine header.

Once again Tavistock were undone by a set piece, which has occurred on numerous occasions this season.

With 15 minutes to go the Lambs had a penalty appeal turned down when Dave Hallett was pulled down in the penalty area, but despite appeals by the visitors the referee waved play on.

The home team almost increased their lead in the dying minute when a shot from Ed Timmons was inches wide of the target.

An early goal conceded by Tavistock in each half was their downfall, these two mistakes proved very costly as there was little to choose between the two sides over the 90 minutes.

This was a disappointing result as it sees Falmouth go six points clear of the Lambs in the league table, although Tavistock have played four games less than Falmouth.

There were some good performances in the conditions by the Lambs, who welcomed back Josh Robbins, who was probably the Lambs' star performer.

Dave Hallett and Jarryd Kelly also gave sound performances in midfield.
