Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier Bodmin Town 4
Tavistock AFC 1
THE reigning champions Bodmin Town maintained their unbeaten start to the season, with this victory at Priory Park.
The Lambs got off to the worst possible start when they lost possession just inside their own half in the fifth minute. Krac with a fine pass found Sam Mathews on the right, before continuing his run into the visitor's penalty area where he met the perfect pass from Mathews to fire home from eight yards.
The Lambs battled their way back into the game, but Bodmin looked the more potent side in the attacking third of the pitch. In the 38th minute the Lambs equalised when the home defence failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to Dave Hallett who fired low into the corner of the net from ten yards.
Bodmin were back in front within a minute when Chris Luxton's 30 yard drive came back of the cross bar, Carter was the quickest to react and had the easiest of tasks to tap the ball home from close range to give Bodmin a 2-1 lead.
Things got even worse for the visitors when Jamie Ahern had to be replaced after sustaining a back injury in the 35 minute.
In the 42nd minute Johnny Wyatt came close to equalising when his shot was tipped over the bar by Miller in the Bodmin goal. On the stroke of half time the Lambs conceded a third when Carter chased a long ball on the left to cross into the penalty area, where Luxton's header struck Matt David and deflected kindly into Mathew's path for him to fire home.
The Lambs tried to get a foothold but it was a day that nothing seemed to going right and winger Joe Carey had to be replaced by Josh Robbins. Bodmin grew in confidence and were the dominant force in the second half. Andy Meeds was in terrific form and pulled off two great saves to deny the home side from extending their lead.
In the 55th minute Dan Pethick found Josh Robbins with a fine cross but his effort was just wide of the target.
Former Tavistock striker Glyn Hobbs made his Bodmin debut mid way through the second half and was unlucky when his blister shot from 25 yards whistled over the cross bar.
The scoring was completed in the 68th minute when Krac fed the ball through to Carter, who held the ball and provided the return pass for Krac to hit a stunning shot from 20 yards that flew into the top corner of the net giving Meeds no chance.
The Lambs tried to get back into the game but failed to create few opportunities against a well organised Bodmin defence.
The Lambs paid dearly for two defensive mistakes and once a side with the quality that Bodmin have get two goal lead then it was always going be a big ask to turn the game around. A 4-1 score line was somewhat harsh on the Lambs as they had periods when their passing game looked good, but they never really opened up a solid home defence. On the day Bodmin thoroughly deserved their victory.
Ex-Tavistock player Shane Karc was outstanding for the home team.
No doubt the manager will be hoping that the injuries to Ahearn and Carey are not serious so they can return to the action, as they are both key players in the team
n The Lambs are at home to Plymouth Parkway on Saturday, kick off 3pm; the Reserves are away to St Stephens Borough, in the first round of the league cup, kick-off 2.30pm.
