TAVISTOCK AFC entertained their professional neighbours Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night in a tight but intriguing match at Langsford Park.

In front of a crowd of around 550 spectators, the newly promoted Western League side were up against the recently relegated Football League Division Two side who were having their last game before the start of the season begins on Saturday with an away encounter against Crewe Alexandra.

Plymouth had mostly young players in their team but included first team players such as Tafari Moore, Ashley Smith-Brown, Alex Fletcher and new signing Jose Baxter. They also played triallist Ben Hall.

The rain made for difficult conditions but the teams produced a match where Argyle dominated much of the possession, but Tavistock held them at bay with a fine defensive display. There were few chances in either half but when Argyle did have the opportunity, home goalkeeper Josh Oak was in excellent form — the highlight of which was a penalty save from Argyle striker Klaidi Lolos in the 66th minute.

Tavistock themselves had their chances too, with Jack Crago forcing Argyle keeper Cooper to make a good save low down.

Tavistock AFC club spokesman Derek Pethick told Times Sport: ‘There were a number of outstanding players from the Lambs but Josh Oak was man of the match and both Dan Evans and Matt David in defence gave dogged performances.’

This was an encouraging performance from the Lambs, who can go forward with confidence in their first ever Western League match on Saturday away to Clevedon Town, kick-off 3pm.
