St Stephen’s Borough 3

Bere Alston 5

WITH the atrocious weather affecting the rest of the league programme, this game, played on St Stephen’s artificial pitch at Salt Mill, turned out to be a real New Year’s cracker.

Away side Bere Alston came back from 3-1 down at half-time to score four in the second half and come away with three welcome points.

It was the visitors who nearly scored the opener when Graham Galway hit the crossbar.

It was St Stephen’s though, who took the lead when a clever ball through from Mark Toms was finished off by Cameron Dymond. Toms himself doubled the lead with a 25 yard shot.

The home side looked to be in control but Bere snatched one back when a mis-pass by Boro defender Elliot Dymond was pounced upon by Ben Stephens, who took it past the keeper to score. However, just two minutes from half-time the momentum went back to the home side when Joel Cockings scored for the Saints with a shot inside the box.

The Cornish side did not help their cause when, just after the interval, they gifted the visitors with an own goal, courtesy of Jamie Holt.

The sides were then level when a foul by Boro defender Josh King led to a penalty, which was neatly put away by Paul Simpson.

The momentum had now turned to the visitors and further goals from Galway and Stephens gave Bere Alston a great new start to the new year.
