SPORT students from Duchy College Stoke Climsland had a chance to train with some of the best during a recent training session with premier league football coaches.

The group joined other fellow sport students from across the Cornwall College group for a four-day tour of London, which included a training session with coaches at Watford FC.

Mark Ferguson-Smith, team lead for sport at Cornwall College St Austell, said: ‘Learning outside of the classroom is an integral part to the sport student’s life here at Duchy Performance Sport. The annual sport tour gives the students an opportunity to experience and become inspired to progress onto promising careers within the sports industry after leaving.’

The tour, in its sixth year, also included watching Watford play Newcastle, a tour of Wembley stadium and watching an English ice hockey fixture between Bracknell Bees and Swindon Wildcats.

Student Ollie Burt, currently studying BTEC level 3 diploma in sport, said: ‘London was a great experience and I loved every minute of it. The activities we took part in were extremely fun and so memorable. Meeting other students from across the Cornwall College group was great.’

Ryan Le-Doux-Lucas, sports’ course co-ordinator at Duchy College, added: ‘It’s an absolute pleasure organising the sport tour as our students always thoroughly enjoy the experience and most importantly it allows them to explore the sporting opportunities in one of the biggest cities in the world.’
