OKEHAMPTON Argyle hit rock bottom in the South West Peninsula League Premier East on Saturday, October 3.
They welcomed an Axminster Town side to Simmons Park who went the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign without winning a single game.
Not to put too fine a point on it but the Tigers collected just one point from the 90 available and conceded 134 goals in the process.
Axminster also brought up the rear in 2024/25 but on both occasions, declined the option to be relegated out of step six.
With eight games in the books this season, their record read 0-1-7 and they were a point behind Argyle heading into the weekend’s clash.
It were fixtures like this last term that allowed Okehampton to steer clear of the dropzone, even if they struggled against the teams ahead of them.
That wasn’t the case this time around though as Axminster won by four goals to one on their travels, deservedly earning themselves the league’s prize for team of the week as a result.
Owen Dibling, Harrison Larcombe, Tony Pinder and Josh Short were on target for the Tigers whilst the scorer of Argyle’s goal hasn’t been posted at the time of writing.
Argyle have now moved into dead last, 17th place, with Axminster ahead in 16th by two points due to the former’s point deduction earlier in the year.
Tonight, they will look to bounce back as they face rivals Crediton United, who themselves aren’t exactly thriving thus far.
Elsewhere in the division over the weekend, leaders Cullompton Rangers hit Teignmouth AFC for six, Crediton shared the spoils with Middlezoy Rovers from their six-goal thriller, Bishops Lydeard caused an upset away at Bridport FC, as did Torridgeside against Elburton Villa, and there were also wins for Honiton Town, Ilfracombe Town and Ilminster Town.
On Saturday, October 10, Argyle host Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police who recently lost manager Connor Marshall to Tavistock AFC in the Western League.
