TAVISTOCK coach Leigh Puttock didn’t pull any punches following his side’s 37-19 defeat by Old Plymothians.
The Old Boys were 19-0 up before half time and pulled away after the break for an ultimately comfortable win.
Puttock, who coached the Old Boys before moving to Tavistock last season put it bluntly. “We simply were not good enough.”
It ended-up a pointless afternoon for Tavistock, who were in bonus-point contention with time running out at 27-19 down.
Tavistock went 19-0 down to tries from Aaron Joynt, Will Brooksbank and Fred Smale, plus two out of three conversions for Matt Smale.
Ollie James pulled a try back for Tavistock just before the interval.
Fred Smale banked again for OPM straight after the interval – that was 24-5 – which kick-started Tavistock into action.
Tries from Jim Wellard and Liam Watts, plus a Freddie Fuller conversion, put Tavistock back in contention. All OPM managed during the same period was a Matt Smale penalty.
A Will Mills try and two Matt Smale shunts put OPM over the horizon.
Starting with back-to-back wins leaves Tavistock in 10th in the Counties Two Devon division at the time of writing.
