OKEHAMPTON Argyle were scheduled to visit Ilminster Town at the Archie Gooch Pavilion on Saturday, August 29.

The day prior though, the South West Peninsula League released a statement regarding the cancellation of the game.

They wrote: “Okehampton Argyle have informed the league that they are unable to fulfil the fixture due to player availability.”

This was then followed by another statement on Monday, August 31, which offered an update from the league’s perspective.

It read: “The East division league table has been updated this morning to reflect the Ilminster Town v Okehampton Argyle game having been awarded to the non-offending club (Ilminster Town) and a one point deduction made to Okehampton Argyle who have also received a charge notice in accordance with relevant rules.

“The league is unable to award goals, so the table shows in affect a 0-0 Home Win for Ilminster Town, a 0-0 Away defeat for Okehampton Argyle, and a one-point deduction.”

This situation at hand becomes all the more intriguing given the fact that Argyle’s 2nd and 3rd XIs were both able to fulfil their respective fixtures in the Stitch2Print Devon & Exeter Football League.

Okehampton’s 2nd XI made a winning start to their Division Three campaign, winning by four goals to home against Feniton 2nd XI, whilst the 3rd XI were beaten 6-3 by Witheridge 2nd XI despite leading 2-0 at the turnaround.

It remains to be seen if there will be a domino effect for Argyle’s 1st XI fixtures coming up in September.

They are without a game this coming weekend and so have longer to regroup before they return to action in the Walter C Parson League Cup, when Millbrook AFC pay Argyle a visit at Simmons Park on Tuesday, September 8. Their next league clash is against Teignmouth AFC (Sept 19).
