DRAKE Judo Club is celebrating their most successful weekend after brother and sister Max and Cordelia Gregory competed at the British Judo National Championships for Juniors and Seniors.

Cordelia, aged 16, competed in the light-heavyweight category at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, having already become the under 17 cadet national champion. She exceeded all expectations by taking gold and her second national title in the space of two weeks.

Her win then gave her a wild card to fight in the senior event on Sunday where she battled her way through to the latter stages to take bronze.

Older brother Max Gregory is the current British junior number one.

He is ranked in the top 100 Junior players in the world and is based as full-time athlete at the British Judo Centre of Excellence in Walsall.

In the junior event Max took third place which was a fabulous result. With this and his previous results this year he was also invited into the senior competition.

DJC chairman Ross Taylor said: ‘DJC currently has two of the biggest prospects in the UK and over 100 players at our Club who are striving to have a similar success.

‘The whole Club are extremely proud and inspired by these two.’
