Duchy five
Lamerton CFC 6
St Ann’s Chapel 2
LAMERTON hosted their local rivals in the first derby game of the season.
After 10 minutes some lovely foot work from Ben Backway set up Nathan Panter for Lamerton, who coolly placed the ball in the top corner of the net. Panter made it two by calmly rolling the ball in the bottom corner after latching on to a through ball from Scott Dent.
The visitors pulled one back after a mix up in the home defence which lead to a St Ann’s player smashing the ball in the roof of the net. The game started to turn ugly with some hard tackles going in from both teams but fortunately the the half time whistle blew.
With stern words from managers Simon Whithead and Paul Cowling Lamerton came out a different team.
Wingers Tim Westcott and Backway menaced the St Ann’s defence and Tom Scott and Mark Piper pulled the strings in midfield. Lamerton began to take control of the match and Panter scored his hat-trick; his fourth came from a diving header set up by Westcott and his fifth set up by Tom Scott. Westcott put the game to bed after Panter set up for him to score the sixth, St Anne’s never gave up and scored a consolation goal to make it 6-2.
Lamerton’s back four were impressive all match, captain Pete Gibson with his experience and passion, along with Glyn Holmes constant battling and Jack Payne and Phil Credicott’s coolness it was a solid performance.
