Duchy five
Lamerton CFC 5
Looe Town 1
LAMERTON faced a midtable Looe Town side at home in wintery conditions.
Sam Turner as captain in the home midfield, along with Paul Cowling and George Murrain kept it tight and produced some lovely moves and passes; with Dan Rogers and Tim Westcott on the wings and lone striker Nathan Panter they were all causing Looe troubles.
Lamerton struck their first goal with neat work on the wing from Westcott, who linked up with Panter, who chipped in a ball to Rogers to score from close range. In wet conditions and a slippery surface it seemed difficult for both defences to play, but a solid back four of Glen Holmes, Jack Payne, Phil Credicott and Luke Shalgosky made it look easy. They made neat tackles and some towering headers to soak up any pressure which came their way.
Lamerton’s second goal came just before the break. A great run from Turner resulting in a through ball to Westcott, who slotted the ball past the goalkeeper.
The second half was much the same with the home side having lots of the possession and taking the game to Looe. Lamerton made it three after 55 minutes when Cowling dummied past two players to only be brought down for a penalty; up stepped top scorer Panter who smashed the ball home to make no mistake. Soon it was 4-0 when Phil Credicott passed a superb 20 yard ball from defence to let Panter free to race through on goal to score. Looe’s heads went down as Panter pounced on a through ball from Cowling to coolly slot the ball under the out rushing goalkeeper.
With the slim chances Looe had, when they did get the shots on target Lamerton’s goalkeeper Josh McDonald kept them at bay. However he had had no chance when a ball fell to a Looe player who struck home a consolation goal.
This win puts Lamerton second in the league with one point behind the leaders with a game in hand. Man of the match was Lamerton’s George Murrain.
