Bodmin Town 0

Tavistock AFC 3

TAVISTOCK AFC were without the suspended Josh Robbins plus the services of Warren Daw and Luke Brown. Into the starting line up came the returning Ben Cross and Lewis Daw with Tyler Elliott making up the 11. Included on the bench was new signing George Swain with Dan Follett drafted in from Bere Alston.

The home side had not had the best of starts to the season having drawn the first two and losing mid week away to Falmouth. The Lambs were facing a wounded animal. But it was the visitors who had the better start as Josh Grant latched onto a through ball from Jack Crago cutting inside and the ball was lost and the chance gone. Grant was on another jinking run and cross for Elliott to head just over.

The home side’s first chance came on 13 minutes when the ball fell kindly for Chris McPhee in the area but his effort went wide of the post. Two minutes later Tavistock took the lead. Ryan Swain took a long throw into the area, Elliott got a touch to it and there was former Bodmin player Dan Sullivan to volley home at the near post.

Bodmin’s keeper Grant Fisher then came to his sides rescue to block Daw’s effort.

The game changed on the half hour in the Lambs’ favour. Luke Rundle fouled Elliott near to the touchline. After discussion with the discussion Rundle was cautioned but he then mockingly applauded the referee, who immediately produced a second yellow. It was to prove a costly mistake as within two mintutes the Lambs increased the lead. Crago and Grant combined down the left flank and it was the latter to send in a low cross, Sullivan ghosting in at the far post to slide the ball home.

Sullivan and Grant both went close prior to half time with Fisher denying Sullivan and Grant hitting the netting after a jinking run.

The second half started the same as the first with the Lambs in the ascendancy, Crago shot wide from a great Elliott cross on the hour, but it was a break out from the defense on 70 minutes that sealed victory for the Lambs. The ball was worked out to Elliott on the wing to go past his defender and it was another low cross that hit the near post and roll across the grass for Grant to strike home.

It could have been a more emphatic win, with ten minutes left, Ryan Swain’s cross got headed goalwards by a defender but it came back off an upright.

The Lambs finished the game as strong as they started with Crago going on a jinking run turning Simmons inside out but his final effort was tipped away for a corner. What could have been a tricky match eventually turned out to be a comprehensive victory with a great team performance.
