KEYNSHAM TOWN 2

TAVISTOCK AFC 5

TAVISTOCK AFC had to make a change to the proposed starting XI against their Somerset opponents when Dan Evans picked up an injury in the pre-match warm up, so midfielder Warren Daw moved into the back four, with Tallan Burns taking his place. Dave Hallett was unavailable.

The opening quarter of an hour was fairly even with both sides probing to breakthrough. The Lambs had the ball in the net during this period but it was ruled out for offside. The Lambs deservedly got the breakthrough in the 17th minute when a fine move saw Callum Watson provide a defence splitting pass for Jack Crago to fire the ball into the top corner of the net. Minutes later Keynsham themselves had a goal disallowed for offside.

The Lambs were starting to take control of the game with Crago heading a cross from Reece Shanley over the bar. The visitors had to make a change in the 23rd minute when Luke Brown picked up an injury and was replaced by Alex Cairo. The pressure told in the end when Crago cut into the penalty area where he was dragged to the ground. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to penalty spot. Crago fired home the spot kick low into the corner of the net.

Keynsham’s Knighton saw his fine effort flash inches wide of the goal just before the Lambs increased their lead in the 40th minute. A terrific passing move involving four players opened up the home defence for Josh Grant to flash the ball home from 18 yards.

Just before the interval Wilson saw his fine effort for the home team cannon back off the upright and was cleared to safety so the visitors went in at half time with a 3-0 lead.

The home team changed their formation in the second half, moving defender Lee into the front line; it quickly brought a result when he was fouled in the penalty area. Tom Knighton made no mistake to convert the spot kick in the 50th minute.

This set back stirred Tavistock into action and they restored their three goal advantage five minutes later. Another eye catching move resulted in Grant, Liam Prynn and Jack Crago exchanging passes and a great ball into the area saw Grant finish with aplomb.

The home team never gave up to get back into the game. The visitors were sloppy as they lost possession midway in their own half, Harris penetrated the Lamb’s defence before laying on the perfect square pass for Lee to have the easiest of tasks to flash the ball home from three yards.

Just after the hour mark Tavistock manager Stuart Henderson made a substitution with Luke Cloke replacing Tallan Burns. The Lambs created several more scoring chances but Crago wasted two good scoring opportunities.

The Lambs were now in control of the game and looked the more likely to score. With ten minutes remaining Brendon Roberts replaced Crago and he was soon in the action having a fine effort saved by Clark in the home goal. It was Luke Cloke next to see his fine effort saved by keeper Clark.

With nine minutes remaining a well worked, short corner kick routine caught the home defence napping and Liam Prynn took full advantage, as he flashed the ball home from 12 yards, beating Clark at his near post, to restore the three goal advantage.

This was another good team performance earning a well deserved win against a team that have had some good results recently.
