Emirate FA Cup preliminary
Shepton Mallet 1
Tavistock AFC 2
TAVISTOCK put in a terrific performance to deservedly win this FA Cup replay. They now face Highworth Town on Saturday.
Lambs’ captain Josh Oak returned from injury to take over the goalkeeping duties. Play was even in the opening minutes, but it was the Lambs that got the all important breakthrough in the 12th minute. A fine passing move saw the ball find Reece Shanley on the right; his perfect cross saw Jack Crago head home from six yards.
Play continued to flow from end to end. Shepton spurned a good chance to level the scores but the centre forward headed over the bar. The home team continued to press but the Lambs’ defence were in fine form and with Josh Oak in great form commanding his area, collecting any dangerous crosses, they went into the interval leading by a single goal.
The Lambs started the second period and started to control the game. A Tallan Burns thunderbolt was brilliantly turned away for a corner kick by the home keeper.
Crago put away the second to extend the lead in the 60th minute but the home side came back with a vengence when Asa White hit the target in the 84th minute. Tavistock rode their nerves to hold out for a truly superb victory and a place in the next round.
