AT the weekend two teams of Bere Alston Trekkers and two solo BATs runners took on the Firefighters’ Children’s Charity run at Newnham Park, Plymouth — the Hope24.
The race started at 12pm on Saturday and finished on Sunday. The BATs teams of eight and six runners ran laps of the five mile course in a relay system throughout the 35 hour period and the brave soloists ran or walked as far they could.
Overnight the temperature plummeted giving the runners an additional challenge of grabbing some sleep in tents in the freezing conditions.
The following day saw all teams enjoying the beautiful weather to the finish.
The team of eight BATs managed to run 25 laps and the team of six ran 26 laps thanks to a great effort from Murray Turner.
Solo BAT Rachel Wood managed to run 10 laps (50 miles) and her fellow soloist Ann Woodhouse ran/ walk five laps (25 miles).
All the BATs congratulated Danny Slay the organiser for another excellent event which will definitely be back next year.
