CALLINGTON Town are to host League One Plymouth Argyle in July as they announce pre-season fixture list for 2018/19 season.
The first team have announced their line up for the pre-season running into the 2018/19 season with a visit from newly promoted Toolstation Western League Club Plymouth Parkway on July 4, kick-off 7.30pm before the club welcome EFL League One side Plymouth Argyle to Ginsters Marsh on July 11 also with a 7.30pm start.
Then on Monday, July 16, it is a short trip to AFC Plympton and then on July 18 they travel again, this time to St Stephens Borough at Saltash Saltmill.
The final game currently scheduled is a double header with the seconds with a trip to SWP West Division Mousehole on July 28. The team hope for a sixth friendly in early August before the season starts on August 11.
New manager Rod Pethick, who is running the team alongside his son Kev with Sam Borthwick on the coaching staff, said: ‘I am really looking forward to the coming season for several reasons. I am delighted to have been given the honour of managing the first team having progressed through the club, and with the likes of Argyle and Parkway coming to us, and the potential FA Vase in the autumn, things are going to be very exciting for the whole club.’
His view were echoed by club chairman Steve Woolley: ‘It was a natural progression to reward the loyalty and service of Rod and Kev with the managership of the first team and we look forward to starting a new chapter for this young but incredibly successful club.’
Since their creation in 1989, Callington Town have enjoyed an incredibly successful time with no fewer than 34 major trophies. Last season, whilst the first team had a tough season, the ladies and veterans enjoyed more success with three trophies to add to the collection including the league and cup double for the Ladies which sees them promoted to the Premier Division of the South West Women’s Football League.
