AS the cyclo-cross season draws to an end, Dartmoor Velo riders have been making the most of the last few races. This weekend was the penultimate round of the South West cyclo-cross league and a new venue at Plymouth motoX circuit.

A crisp frosty start to the day saw the U8s race over hard bumpy frozen mud with some challenging climbs. Charlie Day and Seb Weatherill put in a great performance, Charlie showing his bike handling skills on the descents, and Seb looked strong up the hills to finish with a well-deserved silver.

In the U10/12 race Euan James made his debut league race while Freddie Day took silver U10 boy with team mate Alex Pearcy in third; Lara Dix doggedly worked through the field to take bronze in the U12 girls. Well done also to Orla White, Lydia Stone, Elsie, Nell and Mabel Maguire, Dominic Stone, and Tamzin Jarmin.

The battle for the U16 win was taken by Leo White, with Leon Dawes in third and Ewan Dix picking up third in the U14 race. James Pearcy, Abe Reid, Jack Cann, Henry Fletcher, Noah Breslin and Chris Francis also rode well.

In the junior/adult race Nathan Dowding, Rosie Andrews and coaches Chris and Gary looked strong, with Rosie winning the junior women, Nathan fourth junior men and Gary, third veteran 50.

Last weekend, further from home, the UK National Cyclo-cross Championship was held in Shrewsbury. Rosie Andrews was 17th in the junior women and Ewan Dix U14 finished in 41st in a field of 90.
