THE ladies flew the flag for the Bere Alston Trekkers this weekend. On Saturday, Marcia Macey ran the first of the ’Dartmoor Three in One’ races staged by Puretrail Running.
Starting and finishing in the Moorland village of Peter Tavy and nestled below the wild Tors of West of Dartmoor, the Dartmoor Three in One offers three races of three distances, all in one day and totalling 22.25 miles overall.
All races start and finish from Peter Tavy Village Hall with a mass start for each race. All competitors wishing to complete the races have to finish the first to be on the start line for the second, and the third. How much time they have to recover between races is down to the individual. This new concept event was a real test of endurance and tenacity, and Marcia opted for the first of the trio of races, completing five tors and a distance of 9.75 miles in 2 hours 11 minutes 02 seconds.
On Sunday, Heather French and Fran Morgan travelled down to the Eden Project at Bodelva to take part in Cornwall’s biggest running event, the Eden Marathon and Half Marathon.
This multi-terrain route takes runners through spectacular countryside. The course is a hilly, multi-terrain route, with the marathon being roughly 70% on trails, paths and private roads and 30% on public roads.
The half-marathon is 60% on public roads and 40% on trails and paths.
After the recent rain, the course was particularly muddy and arduous but nevertheless Heather ran a strong and determined race, finishing the marathon distance in 5.50.31 and Fran finished the half marathon in 2.22.22.
