Devon and Exeter division seven South Zeal 9 Alphington fourths 0 SOUTH Zeal came into this match looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their intermediate cup exit at the hands of Beer last week and came to the ground with renewed vigour, thanks to the return of coach Stuart Cann.  Alphington Fourths came to the game looking confident of getting a good result and certainly started he match in an assertive manner, pressurising Zeal from the first whistle. However, it was Zeal who struck first, with Darren Gilbert out-pacing the Alphington defence to slot the ball clinically into the bottom right hand corner. This appeared a crushing blow for Alphington and the flood gates opened, with Zeal scoring seven in the first half, with further goals from Adam Clark (scoring twice), Harley Cann, Matty Dennis, Samuel Jones and player of the match Scott Tremain also scoring a superb header, leaping like a salmon at the far post to head his goal in impressive fashion. Alphington however, still created some good chances, but Zeal`s defence held firm, with Lee Gilbert and Ben Davey continuing their excellent partnership at the heart of the defence.  The second half saw Zeal play down the fabled slope on the village pitch, but this was of no hindrance to the rampant home side. After 55 minutes Samuel Jones finished in accomplished style to make the score 8-0 and complete his stylish brace, and confirm the victory beyond all doubt. Harley Cann completed his second goal shortly after. The support for both sides was again excellent and shows the community spirit in the village.
