Yelverton seconds v Tavistock seconds
YELVERTON captain Vinson won the toss and elected to bat. Opening the batting for Yelverton were Cottrell and Spear senior facing the bowling for Tavistock by Milligan and Worth.
It was Tavistock who struck early when Spear was caught off Milligan for 8 to make it 16-1. Cooper then joined Cottrell and they set about creating a partnership, both batting well. They started to accelerate the scoring rate with their partnership on 96 when Cooper was caught off the bowling of Scott-Monden for an excellent 37 (three fours) to make it 112-2) with Cottrell making his 50.
Keen then fell when playing on to Willetts for four (134-3). Betts then joined Cottrell and they added another 41 before Betts was lbw to Willetts for 15 for 175-4.
Cottrell and Vinson then got their side past the five batting points before Cottrell was finally out for a brilliant 92 (13 fours) when caught by McGahey off Worth and with Yelverton on 201-5. It was 201-6 when Scott-Kirk was bowled first ball by Willetts.
Vinson was next to go when bowled for a quick fire 24 off 21 balls (two fours and a six) on 209-7. McEleny and Spear Junior saw out the remaining overs well to take Yelverton to 224-7 off the 45 overs with McEleny 12 not out and Spear 1 not out.
Tavistock bowling figures were Milligan 1-49, Worth 2-31, Gauler 0-22, White 0-25, Scott-Mondon 1-35 and Willetts 3-56.
Tavistock seconds opened their batting with Bees and White while Yelverton opened the bowling with Dawe and Rushton.
After 13 overs gone the openers raced to 60 without loss. In Spear junior's over the first wicket came when he bowled Bees for 22 for 72-1. In his next over and with the help from a smart catch by wicket keeper McEleny he removed the other opener White for 41 (six fours) for 77-2.
The two new batsmen, Monger and McGahey, started playing the ball to all parts of the ground and by the 36 over had added the hundred partnership and got the score up to 179-2 and needing 46 off the last nine overs. Tavistock looking certain of victory.
However, Yelverton had other ideas. Cooper was bowling fast and straight McGahey played on for 38 to make it 179-3. Russell was brilliantly caught low down at short mid wicket by Vinson off Cooper for one (188-4) and that became 188-5 when Willetts was caught by McEleny off Cooper for his third wicket.
Yelverton now called back the opening bowlers of Rushton and Dawe to bowl the last five overs and Tavistock still with five wickets in hand needed 37 for victory. Monger went to a fine catch at long on by Cooper off Rushton for 66 (8 fours and 2 sixes) and and two runs later it was 194-7 when Worth was plum lbw for 0 with a sharp straight one from Dawe.
Coe was run out by Rushton who hit the stumps from the boundary to make it 210-8 in the 44th and two balls later Rushton was involved again when taking a great catch at long on to dismiss Milligan for 14 off the bowling of Dawe.With the last Tavistock two in, Gauler and Scott-Mundon and needing 12 off the last over from Vinson to win Yelverton completed a stunning come back win when Gauler was run out by a combination of McEleny and Vinson for 5 and leaving Scott-Munden on one not out.
