AFTER a slow start at the opening of the Tavistock Snooker League season, Conservative Z were looking to capitalise on their resilience in the second half of an interesting league tussle.
Hodge for the Con Z had a difficult opener against Boyd of the West Devon C team, but managed to wear down his opponent, with his own brand of steady and consistent safety play and sharp potting. Jankowski for Con Z, as reliable as ever, initially looked to be running away with the frame but Shrimpton fought back with all the tenacity he could muster yet it was insufficient against the determined Scotsman. Williams for WD C took on Hackney who, despite his stunning debut some weeks ago, failed to reproduce his magic and was soundly beaten by the experience of Williams.
The following game was a master class of superb potting skills from Fitzsimmons who despite his recent lay off due to work commitments had lost none of his flair and panache and left Elliot floundering with a 75-4 deficit.
The final game was a mere formality. Mayors for Con Z, who has been in remarkable form this season, continued his winning streak against Grigg and eased his team through to a fine victory.
Not for the first time this season Conservative C proved that they are not the ‘walk over’ they used to be with a fine away win to four man West Devon D.
Shrimpton was the first WD D victim as he fell foul to a solid frame from Con’s Davies.
Murton pulled WD D level as he edged out Davey who did not seem to be firing on all cylinders.
Ward with his trademark ‘Thorburn - esque’ approach to snooker, had WD D in front with a well worked win over Con C’s Bellamy.
The final and deciding frame went the way of the Con Cs with Cleave producing a frame of maturity as he got the better of the potentially dangerous Decieco to wrap it up for Con C.
With the non-appearance of West Devon D’s fifth man, Conservative C’s Jago, with a ‘walk over’, was able to go home undefeated this week.
