Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes about her life 'on and off' the track.
Yesterday answered last week's question when I woke up to heavy snow in Bath.
It may have only lasted a couple of hours but it certainly proved that winter has arrived and the heating must be turned on. Admittedly this weather does not lend itself to the summer sport of modern pentathlon but it didn't stop the national championships going ahead over the weekend. However, maybe that was the reason for the limited entries in my class. I wasn't going to complain at the lack of competitors although in a strange way it did place more pressure on me to come out on top. I haven't been back at training very long but the intensity has obviously paid off as I was fitter than expected and managed to enjoy the day finishing with the correct result too.
I think I must have reached the age where I now hope to hang on to my youth or possibly I'm just trying to relive it if it has passed?
I always love the chance to dress up but that usually involves a dress and a pair of heels, so when I was invited to a Hallowe'en party I was not going to pass on a bit of fancy dress action. About the last ten years fancy dress has always involved an unwritten competition between friends as to not who has the most interesting outfit but who can look the 'sexiest.' Hallowe'en left the options of cat, bat, witch and anything else in tight or sheer black clothes. This year I showed my age when I chose my outfit for impact, and well possibly comfort too, as it did involved wearing a duvet wrapped around my body twice. I think it must be the sign of a good costume when my friends didn't recognise me underneath my orange face paint and duvet combination. Oh and in case you hadn't guessed yet I was not a carrot.
