BRITAIN's women, including West Devon's Heather Fell, won the team silver medal at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Bulgaria on Friday.

It was a superb result for the the trio of Fell, Katy Burke and Freyja Prentice, who came second behind Russia in the team competition in Sofia. Later in the championships the team earned another medal with a bronze in the team relay.

Fell and Prentice both secured top-10 places in the individual competition, with Fell crossing the finishing line in sixth, twoplaces ahead of Prentice. Burke ended the day in 14th with junior athlete Kate French finishing 27th.

Individual gold went to Lithuania's world number one Laura Asadauskaite. British pentathletes selected for London 2012 missed the championships to concentrate on their preparations for the Olympics.

The British team rounded off their campaign at the Modern Pentathlon European Championships with a bronze medal in the women's team relay today (Monday).

The trio of Katy Burke, Heather Fell and Freyja Prentice added the team relay bronze to the silver medal the same three athletes won in Friday's team competition.
