EIGHTY participants took to the track at Tavistock College on Sunday to complete a mile to raise money for Comic Relief.

There were joggers, walkers and infants in pushchairs, as well as some very capable runners doing six minute miles, and many came in fancy dress to add to the atmosphere.

Those completing the mile ranged in ages from four to 70, and it was good to see a good cross section of the local community taking part.

The event was organised by Tavistock Athletic Club and their spokesman Keith Bowles said: 'We were disappointed with the turnout but it was well worth the effort as the sponsorship raised totalled £579-50 with several participants raising over £50 each.

'We hope to do something similar for Sport Relief next year. The club is very grateful to the Times and local shopkeepers for publicity, and to Tavistock College who let us use the track for nothing.'

The winners of the fancy dress competition were the Corrigans, Youngs and Taylors who came together as a family group.
