FOR the first time since the Horrabridge Five-A-Side Tournament competition started in 1998 Horrabridge Twinning emerged victorious to win the Larry Speare Champion's Cup and Perpetual Shield without conceding a single goal. Local teams, Horrabridge Young Guns, Horrabridge Twinning, Salmon leapers and Grub Up fared well in this year's competition and goals were plentiful. Devonport Services, Horrabridge Twinning and King's Tamerton I topped their respective groups and were followed into the Champion's Cup quarters finals by Chaddlewood, Kings Tamerton II, Millbridge I, Grub Up and SOS Quickcash. Horrabridge Young Guns reached the Tavistock Hire Supplementary Cup final but The Lona proved too strong for the local youngsters and won the cup with a single goal. In the Larry Speare Champion's Cup final Horrabridge Twinning kept their clean sheet record against Millbridge, scoring two through Mike Burke and Mike Squires. Horrabidge captain and joint top scorer Chris Richardson received the trophy and shield. The 'hotshot' competition (four shots at target) was won by referee Mark Roberts. Cliff Mitchelmore, on behalf of the organisers, thanked referees Alan Lewis, Dave Harding, Barry Jackson, Chris Rea, Simon Mann, Mark Roberts and Paul Rugman for 'providing a seamless and organised display and all the football and twinning club members who helped out.'
