AT Tavistock Golf Club's presentation evening captain John Harding told the packed club house that 2014 had been an exceptional year.
'Not only for the prize winners here tonight', he said: 'But this year two major Devon County scratch events were won — the Parker Trophy by the men and the Still Cup by the ladies — a magnificent achievement!'
Always a sign that Christmas cannot be far away is when the Poultry competitions are played, these popular events attracted large fields. The men had reasonable weather for their Poultry medal with Nick Mier topping division one with a net 69; second was Stuart Allen net 72 and third Ken Cole with a net 73 on count back from John Harding.
In division two first was John Thewlis with a net 72, second Keith Klein net 74 on count back from Tony Sherlock and Keith Hollinshead.
Arun Caines in division three came in with a superb net 67, second Chris Laight net 72 and third was Pete Delamar net 73.
Because of the wet weather the ladies' Bottle Trot had to be postponed but, despite the strong winds, the sun shone for the delayed competition. Carrying off the first prizes were the team of Julie Harding, Maggie Hillman and Sally Hills with 72 points. Close behind with 69pts were Margot Angel, Carolyn Crawford and Sue Pratley. Third were Val Jarman, Jenny Kay and Marion Stenhouse with 67 pts on countback from Pat Pope, Rosemary Rae and Dorothy Warren.
