Tavistock Social XI v West Devon Club TAVISTOCK welcomed the West Devon Club to the second of their two annual matches — the first being rained off — and everything was to be played for, along with the prestigious trophy. Tavistock won the toss and batted first but were in early trouble when Newton was bowled for 8 by captain Roger Rich. A total of 26 from Josh Stephens and John McGahey 27 not out got the innings back on track. Colin Piper added a quick 10 and James McGahey hit a quick 14 before man of the match Jeff Lawson removed his off stump. Barry Milligan (11) and Rob Milligan 25 pushed Tavistock on to a good total of 141, despite Rob trying to run his father out! M Harris 2-10 and John Rich with 1-8 were the pick of the bowlers. The West Devon Reply got off to a roaring start with Jamie Stephen 33 and Chris Herford 8 pushing the score up to 54 with only 10 overs gone. Matt Anderson and Barry Milligan bowled accurate opening spells Milligan, 1-4 off 3. Smalling and Friend (8) soon followed causing a set back for the visitors and they fell further behind the run rate when all rounder John Rich chipped one back to Jonty Newton for only one. Thirty-two for no wicket had become 65 for 6 despite G Lawson (7) and Skipper Roger Rich (9) putting on a brave 20 stand. Skipper John McGahey taking two wickets in two balls almost finished West Devon. This was done two overs later when N Shoulders was run out for 1. Tavistock Cricket Club expressed thanks to the West Devon Club, Roger Rich, and all who attended and helped with the barbecue and bar. Tavistock won by 47 runs.
