THE Lambs got back into winning ways with a single goal victory over a battling Falmouth outfit.
This was a much better team performance by the home side, as they controlled the game for long periods against the Ambers, but once again the failure to take goal scoring opportunities allowed the visitors to stay in the game to the end.
The Lambs should have taken the lead in the fifth minute against the Cornish side when Johnny Morris shot over the bar when well placed. The home team continued to control the game and failed to convert two good opportunities to open the scoring.
Ian Rooke replaced Johnny Wyatt who could take no further part in the game, after he pulled a hamstring muscle in the 20th minute.
The home team continued to dominate the game taking the lead in the 25th minute when Carlton Farnham beat three Falmouth defenders before cutting the ball back in the penalty area to Ian Rooke. The striker's first time effort was parried by Town keeper Jason Chapman, but the ball fell to Jarryd Kelly who made no mistake, firing low into the bottom corner of the net.
The home team should have increased their lead ten minutes later when a Josh Robbins corner kick saw Jarryd Kelly's header headed off the goal line by Town skipper Mark Vercesi.
A minute before the interval Dave Hallett fired home from the edge of the penalty area, only for the referee to pull the play back for a foul on Dan Hart.
The Lambs nearly paid the penalty for all the missed chances, Tavistock goalkeeper Andy Meed who had little to do until the 60th minute, pulled off a point blank save to deny Vercesi from equalising. Vercesi then played in Glen Squires but his lob went over the bar.
The visitors' chances of gaining a point were effectively over when Town's debutant defender Josh Norris was red carded for a crude tackle on Kelly.
The Lambs made the extra man count and it took two magnificent saves by Chapman to deny Kelly from increasing the lead.
This was a much better performance from the team, and had their finishing been better the game would have been well out of the visitors reach by the interval. Everyone played their part in achieving victory with some fine individual performance from Ben Davies in his normal right back position; Josh Robbins who improves with every game, and Carlton Farnham on the right wing.
The team need to build on this result and with the return of players from injury the team should get back to the level of performances we witnessed early in the season.
