EMILY Pocknell, a Tavistock Community Primary school pupil, recently travelled to Edinburgh to take part in the national finals of the BMC Youth Climbing Series.  

The Year 4 pupil was invited to the finals at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena as part of the South West team after coming first overall after three regional heats held in Plymouth, Exeter and Bristol. Emily is a member of the climbing squad at The Barn in Milton Abbot and trains there twice a week. She had to climb three top-rope routes and three boulder problems during the competition. She showed great determination through-out and achieved second place.
