DUCHY College sport students James Cawte and Ross Richardson have been handpicked for a new coaching scholarship in partnership with England Colleges Football. During the two year scholarship James and Ross, who are in the first year of the Sport BTEC National Diploma course at Duchy College Stoke Climsland, will get the opportunity to attend England Colleges training and fixtures across the country. They will be mentored by England Colleges national team officer and coach Gary Jeffery who says: 'This is a great achievement for the lads and will give them a great stepping stone to coaching opportunities in the future.' Gary has been working with the England Colleges FA Women's under 19 squad for the past six years and James, from Stoke Climsland, will also be accompanying him next month as he heads to Estonia and Latvia to manage the squad. On the tour James will be responsible for taking pictures, logging a video diary and writing match reports. He said: 'This is a once in a lifetime experience and will really help me in the future as I'll get to see the professionals in action. I am over the moon to have been selected for this scholarship, I worked hard for it and it paid off.' Gary, who also manages the Sports facilities at Duchy College and coaches the Duchy performance football squad, added: 'This will be a great learning experience for James to be involved first-hand in an international football tour and something he will keep with him forever. 'I hope to teach him the ins and outs of running a high profile trip and he will also learn a lot of skills from the other qualified staff on the tour.'
