THE weather forecast for Saturday at Shaugh Lake was most unpromising for thosecompeting at latest the Dartmoor Model Boat Club races. There were rain and strong winds from the south west.

However, seven skippers, all members of DMBC, arrived with their international one metre boats, and several were brave enough to rig their boats with the B set, while the less adventurous elected for the C rig.

Racing started at about 11am on a triangular Olympic course set by Steve Watts with each race consisted of two laps.

Tom Eaves, a spokesman for the club, said: ‘Continuous rain and poor visibility, together with strong gusts of wind, made the sailing rather lively, with some boats giving a fair impression of a submarine. A total of 12 races were run before it was agreed to abandonthe event.’

RESULTS: 1,  Jerry Lock, sail number 15, Aqua. 10 points; 2, Steve Watts, no 52, Hot Mix 2, 20pts; 3, Graeme Harris, no 169, Alternative, 28pts. Runners up were Dave Morris, Ralph Weller, Dominic  Hanley and Tom Eaves.
