TAVISTOCK Squash and Racketball Club’s monthly competition in August was the quarterly handicapped tournament and there were 14 players looking to win the honours.

With plenty of good squash and lots of close games due to the handicapping the plate final was played between Mike Benstead and Edward Smart, who had to play his dad Ian in the first round. This proved a good match for both players but Mike used his extra experience to take the plate final win.

In the main final Daniel Gillard played Simon Powell. Daniel proved a tough competitor and his speed and ability to get everything back proved the difference, giving him a relatively comfortable win. Next month it is a squash teams’ event.
