THE juniors at Yelverton Golf Club have hit a rich vein of form at the end of their season to win two major junior county trophies.

The squad of Matt Cooper, Dominic Allen, Jacob Shortman, James Dawson, Iain Couper Caitlin Evans Brand, Meg Rossouw and Dan Williams, won the league winners final cup in the West Devon Juniors League by beating last year's winners Staddon Heights at Bigbury by 2.5 to 2 points after a playoff.

This victory was all the more impressive, as this is the first season that some of the juniors have played in club matches.

They went on to win the Roy Wood Championship Day Trophy at Stover, by beating Wrangaton 3-2 in the morning and then once again beating Staddon 3.5 to 1.5 in the afternoon, to cap off a great month.

Team captain Iain Couper who had missed most of the season through illness, picked up the two trophies at the prize presentation after the finals.

Junior organiser Tony Allen was justifiably proud of the juniors, saying that this was a great achievement for such a young team and full of promise for the future, as four of these players play county golf for Devon.
