TWENTY teams from nine primary schools took part in the annual Meldon Cup Cricket Festival. The year 3 and 4 event was previously held at Chagford but this year moved to Okehampton College.

The cup was contested by A teams from Whitchurch, Chagford, St Peter’s, Boasley Cross, Northlew, Tavistock, Exbourne, North Tawton and Bridestowe.

The OCRA Trophy was contested by B teams from Tavistock, St Peter’s, Exbourne, North Tawton, Chagford and Bridestowe.

The C teams from Chagford, Bridestowe, Tavistock, St Peter’s and North Tawton competed for the OCRA Plaque.

The A competition was divided into two pools with the winners of pool one meeting the winners of pool two in the final. St Peter’s won their pool and small school, Northlew beat, Whitchurch, Tavistock, North Tawton and Exbourne to play St Peter’s in the final. St Peter’s ended up winners 241 runs to 232.

North Tawton B won all their games to pick up the OCRA Trophy and Chagford C took home the OCRA Plaque. All agreed that, although a little cold at times, it was a great day and some exciting cricket had been played.
