AROUND 2,000 rowers descended on the Isles of Scilly earlier this month to compete in the 29th World Pilot Gig Championships, the pinnacle of the gig racing year.
A total of 300 crews took part, made up of 152 ladies’ crews and 148 men’s crews.
The weather was superb for most of the event, providing perfect racing conditions.
This year’s championships turned out to be one of the most successful for Cotehele Quay Gig Club with some great results achieved.
The ladies’ A crew placed a magnificent 18th; the club’s best ever result at the World Pilot Gig Championships!. The men’s A Crew moved up two groups from last year and placed 32nd. The crews training and hard work paid off with all 6 crews beating last year’s results!
