Cotehele Quay Gig Club (CQGC) had a successful three days at the 23rd World Pilot Gig Championships held on the Isles of Scilly.
Competing for the first time this year at the championships, had eight different squads taking part with the crews rowing in the club's two traditional pilot gigs — The Cream of Cornwall and Zeus.
Amid the 125 teams competed Cotehele's Mens A team finishing an impressive 17th overall. In the women's races, the Ladies A finished at 53rd and Ladies C 116th. The Ladies B crew won their group races, finishing at 85th resulting in a spot on the winner's podium and a trophy to bring home for the boatshed.
In the veterans' races, the ladies veterans A rowed in at an impressive 20th, mens' veterans B at 26th and mens vets A at 41st.
Mark Dudridge, captain of the men's B team said: 'The squad performed extra-ordinarily well to finish 86th, a record high for the Men's B team in the club. As some of the crew were new to rowing and to competitions of this standard we had hoped to be in the top 100 so this result was exceptional.'
