THE Lambs followed up their fine 5-1 midweek victory over Liskeard, with another good display at the Mill on Saturday, moving them into joint second place with Plymouth Parkway, after recording their fourth straight win.
With Chris Menhenick moving to neighbours Launceston on Friday Tavistock were boosted by the return of Joe Carey after a long injury and who was among the team's substitutes.
The Lambs started at a fast pace and soon had the home defence under pressure. In the ninth minute D Hallett combined well with Jarryd Kelly and his cross found Josh Robbins who looked to have timed his run perfectly, but was adjudged to be off side by the assistant referee.
The Lambs did well to clear the danger from a well placed free kick into the penalty area by Alexander in the 15th minute.
The Lambs were soon back on the attack when a fine run and cross from Robbins found Carlton Farnham on the angle of the penalty area; he cut inside but his goal bound shot was deflected for a corner kick. Farnham continued to cause the home defence real problems with his pace and his cross was headed over by Rooke in the 27th minute.
In the 30th minute against the run of play Torpoint the lead. Two ex- Lambs players were involved when Jimmy Alexander's left wing corner kick was headed home by unmarked Shane White.
The visitors almost equalised in the 40th minute when a Johnny Morris free kick into the penalty area saw Rook's powerful header blocked on the line, and following the goalmouth scramble the ball somehow ended up in the keeper's arms.
The Lambs then lost the services of Paul Quinn in the 42nd minute with a hamstring injury, this saw the return of Joe Carey. He had an immediate impact on the game, his penetrating run down the right resulted in a corner. A short corner kick found Carey and he slid the ball into Carlton Farnham who turned sharply in the box and flashed the ball past keeper Sam Borthwick into the corner of the net.
The Lambs took charge after the interval and should have gone into the lead. In the 48th minute after a great move saw Dave Hallett's low drive come back off the upright, and was finally cleared after another goal mouth scramble. Ian Rooks clever ball found Hallett heading another chance just wide of the target.
Torpoint were now reduced to the odd counter attack and nearly made the visitors pay for their missed chances when Brian Stacey beat two defenders but sent his shot high over the crossbar. Carey then went close to giving the Lambs the lead, when Carlton Farnham became provider with a great cross, but Carey fired over from 12 yards out.
The Lambs continued to attack and their efforts were justly rewarded in the 88th minute when a cross field ball from Joe Carey was flicked on by Ian Rooke into the path of Jarryd Kelly, who showed his class by calmly rounding the keeper before slotting the ball home.
This was another good all round performance by the team. There were particularly good performance from Josh Robbins, who is improving with every game, Dave Hallett and Dan Hart back to their best, and Carlton Farnham, Jarryd Kelly and Joe Carey's pace always causing problems for the home defence. Johnny Morris had a good game and Jamie Ahern had another fine game.
