Whitchurch v Kilmington
WITH nothing to play for, for either side, Whitchurch's last league match at home to Kilmington had a distinct end of term feel about it.
Whitchurch skipper Richard Hall, won the toss yet again and decided to bat first. Club stalwart Hammy Kerswill was asked to open and lasted two balls. Veteran Nigel Barriball soon followed also without troubling the scorers.
A shoot out for the first team batting prize then ensued with the future talent of Billy Barriball out gunning Martyn Credicott by 44 runs to 16.
Runs were flowing as were wickets, as Whitchurch were in full 20-20 mode. Cameos from Newton and Meadows were supplemented by 25 extras as Whitchurch were dismissed for 129 inside of 30 overs.
Cook led the wickets for Kilmington with 5-30, although all but one wickets was a catch and most of those were in the deep.
Taking to the field before tea, Kilmington made a steady start against some variable bowling. Cook (25) and Lavender (24) added 58 for the first wicket when Newton struck. A second wicket for Newton followed on the stroke of tea.
Whitchurch's part time bowlers continued to take wickets, but Kilmington were never in trouble of reaching their target. Newton finished his short spell with 3-24, with Nigel Barriball and Richard Hall taking the other wickets to fall.
The winning runs were knocked off in the 27th over allowing plenty of time to enjoy the end of season festivities.
