WEST Devon A ground out a hard fought victory against a spirited Conservative Z team in the Tavistock Snooker League.

On paper, the first frame looked to be a home banker as the unbeaten Brookes played Con Z’s stalwart Symons. Despite the gulf in class, Symons surprised everybody as he confidently built up an early lead only for Brookes to fight back to even things up. It went all the way to a black ball finish with both players having chances to take the frame. Brookes eventually held his nerve to take the frame and maintain his unbeaten season.

Con Z’s McKechnie (senior) was up next against an in-form Morris who took a commanding early lead. Mckechnie fought back to get on level terms only for Morris to accelerate away and take the frame.

West Devon’s Taylor was in a fighting mood against Con Z’s Mayors. After falling behind and requiring two snookers, Taylor got the fouls he needed but could not get back into the frame after a lengthy safety battle.

Flack (junior) for Con Z put up a valiant display against WD A’s Rich. In a scrappy frame Flack did not make the most of his opportunities as his rest skills were not quite up to par. Rich ran away with the frame to secure the win for WD A.

It was up to Lillicrap (junior) to salvage some pride for Con Z team against an out of form Heathman. In a cagey frame it was Lillicrap who took it by potting brown, blue and pink and left Heathman reflecting on missed opportunities. The final score was a 3-2 victory to West Devon A.

The first draw ever in the Tavistock Snooker League took place as both Tavy A and Golf A skippers had availability problems, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Golf A’s Pope pulled out some good late pots to pip Anderson (junior) to the post. Evans (junior) soon had it level as he brushed past Golf A’s stand in man, Kendall, with ease. The highlight of the night then began with a superb well worked 53 from Anderson (senior) as he showed his son how it should be done.

West Devon B then continued their renaissance with another good showing, this time with a 3-2 win over four man Conservative C.

WD B’s Hooper allowed Con C’s Hall to build up a lead that he was never able to pull back.

It was soon level as WD B’s John Rich produced an eye catching performance to remove the potentially dangerous Neale.

Battle of the skippers then ensued with nothing between the two in the early stages only for WD B’s Gilchrist to finish the stronger to ‘nick’ it from Con C’s Jago.

In the final frame Bassett pulled one back for the Conservative C with a bit of a ‘walk in the park’ frame, but with only four men it was West Devon B that took the spoils.
