IT looked to be a shaky start to the season in the Tavistock Snooker League for Conservative Z with Hodge falling to Ruth of Golf A followed by Symons in a likewise manner to Bruty.

It took Mayors — in a tough match against his old adversary Whitley — and Mckechnie, making a return to the team, to redress the balance. Fitzsimmons rounded off the evening quite nicely for Con Z with a solid win against Pope to take all three points and rescue his team from what appeared to be certain defeat.

Conservative A, last year’s runners up, were not stretched in this one as they started their league campaign off with a ‘maximum five’ over Golf B.

Bell, Carruthers, Wiles, Babb and new player Boulton produced the goods for Con A, with only Gawman for Golf B, putting up any meaningful resistance as he tested Boulton all the way. A couple of twenty plus breaks for Wiles the other highlight of the night.

West Devon A carried on their merry way with another big 4-1 win over the out of sorts West Devon D.

WD A’s Brookes (29 and 22) met with no resistance from WD D Team’s Murton as he powered through his frame with ease. Williams for WD D provided their only snippet of joy for the evening as he overcame Taylor to draw his side level.

However, it was all downhill from there as The A team took the last three frames, thanks to K Rich, Lawrence and Morris, to cement their victory.

Once again, following on from last week, it seems that West Devon D have trouble converting ‘black ball’ games into wins as the last two frames again were ‘black ball’ frames that escaped them.
