AFTER taking a bit of a tumble in last week’s fixture in the Tavistock Snooker League against Conservative A, Conservative Z bounced back with all guns blazing against West Devon C.
Symons for the Con Z was first to the table against Shrimpton and he oozed confidence with every shot, leaving Shrimpton with little response to the onslaught.
Grigg of West Devon C fell behind to Mayors in the early stages of the frame, but Grigg is never a player to be intimidated and turned the game around in a tight finale, resulting in a re-spotted black; a cat and mouse game resulted in Mayors winning with a fluky doubled black into the bottom corner.
McKechnie for Con Z continued the juggernaut against the new addition to the WD C team, John Morris to make it 3-0 to Con Z.
Hall hoped to build on the win and his steady approach and fine potting did just that against Wannacott who did not seem to have the game under control at all.
Finally, Jankowski for Con Z, whose season has been up and down so far, took on the tenacious Hodge, who was hoping to salvage a point for his team. But it was not to be, Jankowski, approaching his old form took the lead and held onto it to give Con C a well deserved 5-0 and lifting them to third in the table.
West Devon A took full advantage of Conservative B’s recent slump in form with a solid 4-1 win as they reduced the gap at the top of the table behind Conservative A to five points.
Lawrence for WD A, who is enjoying a recent renaissance in his snooker form, dug deep to heap misery on McKechnie.
The one high point of the night for Con A was Lillicrap, who produced one of his better performances to take out in form Heathman by a respectable margin.
WD A were soon in front again as the both teams new acquisitions went head to head, with West Devon’s Brookes (21) on this occasion getting the better of Con’s Anderson. Both players showing enough to suggest they are both going to be a ‘handful’ for any league opponent.
A ‘battle royale’ next ensued as Kevin Rich for WD A had to call on all his reserves to edge out a stern challenge from the feisty Evans - for whom even a 24 break proved not to be enough.
The four points were then secured for West Devon A by Morris, who did what he had to do to overcome Con A’s Ewings.
