BOTTOM of the Tavistock Snooker League table Conservative C went down by the odd frame in five despite a valiant display against West Devon A.

Last week’s Con C hero Martin Davey found it hard to replicate his previous glories as he could just not match the superior fire power of one of West Devon’s main player’s Heathman.

Displaying a fighting spirit so often lacking in the past, the Con C bounced straight back with Neale heaping more misery on out of form Taylor in a low scoring, scrappy affair.

Jago, despite his bad run of form, put up a fighting display before ultimately falling to Morris as West Devon A went in front again.

The match was secured for West Devon A with Rich taking charge of his frame against Con C’s Weldon.

Looking to make it four frames to catch up on the leaders, West Devon A’s Lawrence found it hard to overcome an obdurate Dodd. Several missed scoring opportunities by Lawrence handed the initiative to Dodd who got stronger as the frame went on and won it with two balls to spare.

Two frames from this fighting display was enough to move Con C off the bottom of the league, if only temporarily.

Meanwhile across the road, West Devon C and West Devon D were slugging it out with no holds barred in a customary tight match.

Barry Williams, who’s in good form this season, produced another fine performance to shadow the dangerous Murton, and take the frame for West Devon C.

The D team bounced back in fine style with a solid performance from Shoulders over Mr Elliott to make it all square.

A battle of the seniors then ensued with Grigg staying the course to out manoeuvre his D team counterpart May to put the C side in front again.

New player Wonnacott for the West Devon C had a good showing in his first league outing but it was yet again some good potting from Decieco, with a solid 22 break, that proved the difference as the D team pulled level again.

In the final game, in a pressure decider, Fred Hodge for West Devon C, lost out to Shrimpton (junior) who pulled away to take the frame and the match for the West Devon D.
