Runaway leaders of the Tavistock Snooker League, Conservative A suffered their first reversal of the season at the hands of West Devon A.
Kevin Rich (26) put West Devon one up with a controlled display against Bell despite a late rally from Bell that nearly derailed Rich’s efforts.
Two of the league’s leading players fought tooth and nail against each other, but it was Con A’s Evans that pulled away at the end to take out Morris and pull his side level.
West Devon’s Heathman (22) went on a bit of a turkey shoot as he gave Babb a rare pasting, potting literally everything and leaving Babb nothing, to breeze home with reds left on the table.
Back came Con A with Diane Carruthers weathering a superb showing from Lawrence to steal the game on the last few balls.
The deciding frame was down to Lacey for the Con A against Taylor for West Devon.
West Devon could have been forgiven for going in to this decider with a certain amount of trepidation, given Taylor’s recent form, but it was Taylor that proved the pundits wrong as he applied a delicate nuance of thoughtful safety and assured potting to take the frame and the spoils for his team.
This was a well worked 3-2 win for West Devon with the Cons coming away thinking it could have been even worse.
Golf A’s meteoric rise up the table continued as they took over third spot in the league with an assured 4-1 win over Conservative B.
Whiley eventually overcame Lillicrap to give Golf A the best of starts.
This was backed up by Golf’s Turnbull having to dig deep to haul back a deficit against Con B’s Monk who put up a sterling performance in a free scoring potting game of a high standard.
Ruth secured the match for Golf A with a hard worked win over a tenacious Ewings. This was followed by Matt Whitley making it four for his team in a close encounter with Con B’s skipper Evans.
Respectability was achieved for Con B with a consolation victory for Moloney who potted well while also restricting Golf’s skipper Pope to a modest scoreline.
This is the latest in a string of high scoring wins for Golf A who are currently taking the league by storm, while Conservative B will want to soon redress their recent alarming decline as they slump to the bottom half of the league.
