IT was with a feeling of trepidation that Conservative Z played their Tavistock Snooker League away fixture against Golf Club A, the new team who are currently riding high in the league.

The first frame saw Turnbull convincingly beat Symons of the Con Z, who failed to come to terms with his opponents accurate and steady potting. McKechnie steadied Con Z’s nerves with a decent performance in a tight game with Pope.

Ruth for Golf played Jankowski in another tight frame that could have gone either way but the latter’s final flourish just edged it.

It was 2-2 when Wylie for Golf A outplayed Mayors in a remarkable display of consistent potting. Last to the table, in an evenly balanced contest Fitzsimmons for Conservative Z drew on every ounce of his snooker experience against Treble to take the final frame and the game in what was overall a tight and thrilling match.

Conservative A further cemented their place at the top of the table with a solid 4-1 win against West Devon B.

Regulation wins for Carruthers and Evans (20), backed up by a jittery win for Babb over Hart gave Con A a dream three frame lead. Hoare pulled one back for West Devon, but it was Bell making it four for Con A with a well potted frame to break his recent run of poor results.

Bottom side Conservative C gave it a good go but it was West Devon C that came out on top.

With West Devon racing in to a three nil lead with wins for Grigg, Elliott and Hodge, the signs looked ominous for Con C, with another hiding looking on the cards.

The next two frames however produced a good rear guard action from Dodd and Weldon to make the score respectable for the Con’s as they went down a close 2-3.
