AT first the match between Conservative Z and West Devon D in the Tavistock Snooker League looked to be a points gathering exercise for the former.

Con Z’s Jankowski was back to his old winning ways against WD D’s Decieco, garnering a healthy 78-26 score line and the first win of the evening.

Following on from Jankowski, Mayors’ fine shift, including a tasteful break of 22 against Shrimpton (junior) gave Con Z just the start they needed. Fitzsimmons for Con Z decided to carry on in the same vein and built up a commanding lead against Peters, who had little in response to his opponents’ barnstorming approach. Three points in the bag for the Con Z with the promise of more to come.

West Devon D’s Murton, however, had different ideas and in a tentative sort of game burst the Con Z’s balloon with a decent win over a hesitant Hodge. Flack, who had been on top of his game this season for the Con Z, was left stunned and a mere spectator in this final frame against a rampant Pinkney, who notched up a break of 48, leaving a deflated Flack to concede the frame with all the colours still on the table, realising the futility of carrying on. It was a remarkable fight back from West Devon D and a well deserved two points.

Top of the table West Devon A were finding life easy with a 5-0 win over lowly Conservative C. Brookes, Lawrence and Morris (20) secured the match, with Rich (20) and Heathman putting the maximum icing on the cake.

Conservative B started brightly with Neale and in-form Ewings taking them two up against West Devon B. That, however, was as good as it got, with a stunning come back from Hoare, Roger Rich and Des Blewitt taking the match for WD B right from under the Con B’s noses.

Conservative A kept themselves in touch with the leaders with a 4-1 win over West Devon C. Super sub Cook and Carruthers (25) gave the home team a two frame lead before WD C hit back with a frame from Williams. Frame of the night came from Con A’s Wiles with a 101 points including two 27 visits followed by a 28. Evans mopped for Con A, making it four, with classy 33 and 23 breaks.

Golf B were finding it tough against high flying Tavy A going down 1-4. One crumb of comfort for them was a top notch performance from Appleton who eclipsed Tavy A’s Monk. Breaks of 22 and 21 for Dean Anderson, along with a 26 for Bradley Anderson paved the way for Dent (21) and Mark Evans to see Tavy comfortably home.
