AFTER nearly three and a half hours of a tense match in the Tavistock Snooker League, there was no separating West Devon and Conservative Z as they battled it out for the honours at the top of the B division.
Conservative Z picked up the 3-2 win they needed to overhaul the slender one point lead that West Devon went into the game with to draw level. Both teams had to settle for joint honours which most would agree was a fair result.
All started brightly for the Con Zs with an inspired performance from Symons whose potting proved too much for John Rich. West Devon responded with Roger Rich taking the positive approach as he outgunned Dodd. Jankowski's quiet brand of snooker was enough to put Con Z in front again as he out lasted the tenacious May.
Despite some good early potting from Bath it was the solid snooker from Fitzsimmons that prevailed as he stretched the Con Z lead, and with one frame away from glory.
The final frame saw West Devon needing a win to draw level in the league. West Devon's skipper Gilchrist stepped up to the challenge as he fought tooth and nail with Conservative Z's McKechnie and with the coolest of heads took the last two balls required to win the frame on the black.
